2 OVERVIEW OF THE EUROPEAN HALAL MEAT MARKET (2025)

Strategic Analysis

2.1   Population-Based Calculation of the Halal Market in Europe

By 2025:

CountryMuslim PopulationPercentage of Total Population
France5.7 million9%
Germany5.5 million6.5%
Holland1 million5.5%
Belgium900 thousand8%
England4.8 million7%
Italy2.9 million4.5%
Spain2.3 million5%
Other EU~4 million

Europe total:
➡ 27–30 million Muslims
➡ Expected to reach 55–60 million by 2050.

2.2   Halal Meat Consumption in Europe

Average meat consumption per Muslim:

➡ 32–38 kg/year (excluding kosher and vegan effects)

This figure reflects the demand for halal meat in Europe:

~1 million tons/year (minimum)

~1.6 million tons/year (maximum)

However, due to EU animal welfare laws, mandatory stunning requirements, and a shortage of slaughterhouses, 70% of this demand cannot be met.

2.3   Halal Turnover — 2025 Estimate

Meat prices on average:

– Lamb: €8–12 / kg
– Beef: €6–9 / kg
– Chicken: €2–4 / kg

Accordingly, the European halal meat economy:

💰 €20–€25 billion halal meat market

(including certification + logistics + butchery + import)

But in reality, it’s not halal itself , but
the trade in the halal label that accounts for the majority of this turnover.

Because the actual halal content is low:

▶ Non-halal meat → sold as halal
▶ generating 300-600% additional profit for the meat industry

Therefore, the halal market is one of the most profitable food sectors in Europe.

2.4   Halal Slaughter Bans — The Real Situation in Europe

Stunning is mandatory (and therefore forbidden according to Islamic jurisprudence) in the following countries :

🇳🇱

In all of these countries:

✔ Halal slaughter is legally impossible.
✔ 99% of halal meat on the market is either imported or has fake documentation.

2.5   Europe’s Halal Meat Shortage (Mathematically Impossible)

There are very few countries where truly halal slaughter is actually permitted :

France –
Germany
– England
– Spain
– Italy
– Hungary
– Poland
– Ireland
– Romania

Even in these countries, there are cutting lines:

– No Muslim staff
– No recitation of the Basmala (Islamic invocation)
– Shocking is “not mandatory but is being applied in practice”
– Certifiers are not checking

Therefore, the true halal supply is :

🔥 Authentic halal meat production in Europe is approximately 150-200 thousand tons per year.

🔥 Demand for halal meat in Europe is approximately 1–1.6 million tons per year.

This corresponds to a deficit of 80-90%
. The method for filling this deficit is:

1) Fake halal slaughtering
2) Making frozen meat halal with certification
3) Marketing imported goods as halal
4) Selling certificates for money

2.6   Conclusion: The reality of the European halal market

This is very important:

❗ At least 70–95% of halal meat in Europe is not actually halal.

❗ Certificates manipulate 80% of the market.

❗ Due to government restrictions, it is mathematically impossible for something to be “halal” in some countries.

This situation is both a jurisprudential disaster and a major deception for Muslim consumers.
